United Airlines says it will hire 2,000 flight attendants, its fourth such hiring in four years. Within two days of the announcement, applications for new positions topped 7,500, says Jane Allen, senior vice-president, onboard service. That was seven times the expected level, she says. Training for the 2,000 new positions is to begin in early January.
