United Airlines and regional affiliate Atlantic Coast Airlines (ACA) are combining to offer a Washington DC- New York shuttle service to compete with those operated by Delta Air Lines and US Airways.

Hourly flights will operate to New York LaGuardia from Washington Dulles. The Delta and US Airways shuttle services fly from Washington Reagan National. While National is close to the capital, outlying Dulles offers better access for northern Virginia's fast-growing businesses, says United.

From 4 May, United Express carrier ACA will upgrade all eight daily flights between Dulles and LaGuardia, replacing 29-seat British Aerospace Jetstream 41 turboprops with 50-seat Bombardier Canadair Regional Jets. United has increased daily Dulles-LaGuardia flights from three to eight.

Together, the carriers will offer 16 daily trips, beginning with 06.30 flights from Washington and New York and ending with a 21.30 flight from Dulles. US Airways Shuttle has revised its schedule, bringing its first flights from National to New York and Boston forward by 30min to 06.00. The Shuttle, which operates Boeing 727s, will operate every hour to 22.00.
