United Airlines parent UAL has warned that it expects third quarter earnings per share to be below the $2.60-$3.20 range it announced last month. Chairman and chief executive James Goodwin says poor operating performance in the early part of this month and a dip in bookings because of "publicity surrounding the cancellations in early August" caused by a dispute with the pilots mean the carrier's results will not be as strong as predicted. Second quarter net earnings were $408 million or $3.47 per share.
