The US Department of Homeland Security has released a solicitation for the demonstration of unmanned air vehicles for border security in the southern USA.
Deputy secretary of the department Gordon England says the demonstration is to provide familiarity with UAV operations for border and transport security personnel in civilian agencies.
"We just want to get a feel, let our people see them in operation, understand the resolution, how they might operate, how they may augment us.... So it is a learning experience for us," he says.
England says the solicitation is seeking industry inputinto the potential operational concepts to be explored in the demonstration. "We have asked people to give, if they have access to UAVs, to construct what those experiments would be, define what the outputs would be. It will be a learning exercise, but I do want a scenario actually defined in advance," he says.
