Confetti rained down as VIP guests cut the ceremonial ribbon at yesterday’s official opening of Asian Aerospace International Expo and Congress 2007, the world’s largest civil aerospace exhibition.

Guest of honour was Hong Kong’s financial secretary John Tsang, who opened the exhibition and welcomed attendees and guests, saying: “This is the first time Hong Kong has played host to a major aviation event. Today Hong Kong offers the ideal platform for Asian Aerospace; in Hong Kong we live and breathe business. We use the best of Asian and British business practices.”

The event plays host to more than 520 exhibiting companies from 20 countries across the globe. More than 10,000 visitors have registered in advance, including representatives from 130 airlines.

Reed Exhibitions’ chairman Mike Rusbridge says: “The Asia Pacific region is set to maintain its pole position as one of the most dynamic areas of growth, and the entire international civil aerospace supply chain has a strategic part to play.”

He continued “We are pleased to provide a unique networking platform for the individuals and companies which all play an integral part in shaping the direction of this most important of international industries, and wish everyone attending this historic event a very successful participation.”
