In a boost to the Boeing order backlog UPS has placed firm orders for eight new 747-400 freighters. Deliveries will begin in June 2007 and run through 2008. These will be the first -400s to be operated by the carrier, although it already has 747s in its mixed fleet. The parcels express carrier says it plans to operate the aircraft on international “trunk” routes connecting Asia, Europe and North America.
