US airlines have won from the US government a 60-day extension of third-party war-risk liability insurance implemented in the wake of last September's terrorist attacks. The extension puts pressure on Europe to respond with similar measures. Governments were forced to step in after the terrorist attacks and provide interim back-up coverage as traditional insurers withdrew coverage. In many countries, this expires after 20 March. European airlines are hopeful that the US decision will convince doubting European governments to follow suit. Europe's transport ministers will decide on 25-26 March.
