US Department of Transportation (DoT) officials are touring leading centres across Asia-Pacific to promote their transportation policies, emphasising aviation "as a driving force for economic development."

US Secretary of Trans-portation Rodney Slater will lead the delegation, which is visiting Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo for five days from yesterday.

The US DoT says in a statement that the purpose of the tour is to discuss with senior counterparts "the department's vision of new transportation architecture for a new century and a new millenium."
