The first customer-owned Boeing Business Jet (BBJ) aircraft is to be retrofitted with blended winglets "within weeks", says Aviation Partners Boeing, which won a US Federal Aviation Administration supplemental type certification (STC) for the aerodynamic modification on 5 September.

The STC allows the company to offer the winglets for retrofit to operators of the first 15 BBJs already delivered and completed, as well as to the remaining 30 "green" aircraft already delivered from Boeing to the completion centres.

The retrofit of these aircraft and the nine BBJs being built at Renton, Washington, will be undertaken by the Decrane Aircraft Systems Integration Group in Delaware. Decrane is already responsible for the installation of auxiliary fuel tanks in the BBJ.
