Turboprops lead growth league with deliveries up 30% over the previous first quarter, but overall shipments fall

The US General Aviation Manufacturers Association is reporting year-over-year growth in first quarter shipment revenues although fewer aircraft were delivered.

GAMA says 842 aircraft valued at $4.5 billion were delivered in the first three months of the year, up 11.3% in financial terms compared with last year's first quarter, but down five aircraft.

Highest growth came from the turboprop segment with 77 deliveries, up 30% from 59 shipments in the same period last year. Business jet deliveries increased 12% to 211, up from 188, with nearly half the aircraft shipped outside the USA, a trend that GAMA notes has been consistent and increasing. Piston-powered aircraft shipments decreased 7.7%, with 554 aircraft delivered compared to 600 in the first quarter of 2006.
