Northrop Grumman has delivered the first production AES-1 airborne laser mine detection system pod to the US Navy, for use with the Sikorsky MH-60S helicopter (artist's impression). The system uses a blue-green laser radar to locate and classify near-surface, moored and floating sea mines. The service is to buy 45 pods by 2018.
