Elbit Systems has released further details of an initial $10 million lease deal to provide two Hermes 450 unmanned air vehicles, plus ground control stations, operators and support personnel to the US Department of Homeland Security. Equipped with electro-optical sensors and communications payloads, the UAVs will supplement manned aircraft and ground sensors in monitoring the US-Mexico border from mid-year. The programme may be expanded to include monitoring the US-Canada border.
