US OFFICIALS ARE confident that Indonesia will proceed with the planned purchase of nine Lockheed Martin F-16A/Bs, despite Washington's decision to postpone Congressional notification, until after the November US presidential election.

"As soon as the election is over, this will move at a lightning pace," says a US source. The proposed $160 million deal is now scheduled to be submitted to Congress in January 1997. The Clinton Administration wants to see the fighter sale proceed.
