Federal air-safety investigators have attempted to re-create the fire which brought down a ValuJet Airlines McDonnell Douglas DC-9-30 on 11 May in Florida. Cardboard boxes of oxygen-generating canisters and inflated tyres were loaded into the cargo hold of a fuselage in an attempt to duplicate the accident. Some of the canisters were then activated.
