VALUJET, THE low-fare US airline entrant which is competing head-to-head with USAir in the eastern USA, is creating additional hub operations at Boston, Massachusetts, and Orlando, Florida.

The profitable low-cost operator, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, successfully expanded its operations in 1994 at Washington's Dulles International. The Boston build-up will result in new non-stop services to Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, Florida, in December and January. A Boston-Raleigh-Durham (North Carolina) route will be inaugurated in January.

At Orlando, a new non-stop service will be added to Boston and Raleigh-Durham, Memphis, Tennessee, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in December and January.

ValuJet has ordered 50 McDonnell Douglas (MDC) MD-95s and holds options for 50 more. It is also acquiring eight additional used twinjets, five MDC DC-9s and three 167-seat MDC MD-80s. It already operates a fleet of 39 DC-9s.
