A Douglas DC-3 belonging to Venezuelan carrier Rutaca crashed soon after take-off on 25 January. The aircraft was departing from the carrier's base at Ciudadz Bolivar at around 1800h for a flight to Margarita island in the Caribbean. All 24 people on board were killed.
