I was very proud as a Canadian to see the headline "Bombardier CRJ900 gets European approval" (Flight International, 7-13 January). I was, however, a little disappointed to read that Transport Canada did the original validation, as I feel this to be misleading. As the responsible airworthiness authority under the International Civil Aviation Organisation, we at Transport Canada were pleased to be able to issue the type certificate for the CRJ900 in September 2002. The US Federal Aviation Administration and the European Joint Aviation Authorities subsequently recognised the CRJ900 through their validation of our type certificate.

Editor's note: We had no intention of suggesting that Transport Canada was not the first agency to certificate the aircraft.
