The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) is investigating a serious incident in which a Vietnam Airlines Airbus A321 landed on a runway that is still under construction.
The incident happened at Nha Trang on 29 April at 14:53 local time, when the aircraft landed incorrectly on what will eventually become runway 02R, as opposed to runway 02, which will become runway 02L, says the CAAV.
The aircraft was operating flight VN7344 from Ho Chi Minh City. None of the 196 passengers or seven crew were injured in the incident.
Media reports indicate the aircraft's registration is VN-A613, but the airline has yet to confirm this. Flight Fleets Analyzer shows that VN-A613 was delivered in August 2015, and is powered by two International Aero Engines V2500s.
Imagery on social media purports to show some peeling on the interior of the aircraft's cowling. In addition, the tips of some of one engine's fan blades show some pitting and shredding.
