Frederick Reid, formerly chief operating officer at Delta Air Lines, will head Virgin's effort to build a domestic low-cost airline in the USA. The unnamed carrier is set to start operations in 2005, Virgin says, and Reid will be in charge of building the airline and gaining US approval. He is due to start work within weeks, Virgin says. He will head a 25-strong management team, aimed at breaking into the "competitive but poorly served US domestic market", says Virgin USA chief executive Francis Farrow.
