As virtual reality technology finds its way into new applications, particularly in the leisure industries, the drive to improve image quality increases.

The benefits are felt in the fields where the technology was first developed.

Ericsson Microwave Systems AB, has on show for the first time outside Sweden the latest Head Mounted Display (HMD) Virtual Reality system.

The prototype head-set features full colour image collimation optics with stereo viewing capability. An impressive field of view offers 53H x 41V with 100% overlap, adjustable to 80H with 32% overlap.

Extremes

The Ericsson stand at Hall 1/B10, also features the DU102i display unit featuring a Pentium processor and specifically designed to withstand that environmental extremes found on shipboard, airborne and ground-mobile platforms.

The single unit computer and display DU102i, was first seen at the Workboat ‘96 exhibition in Portsmouth earlier this year. Farnborough ‘96 is the first time it's been on show to the aviation industry.
