Visitor numbers down but calibre ‘impressive' As anyone who has walked around the halls and static display at Farnborough 2002 will readily confirm, attendance figures for this year's show are sharply down on two years ago – an estimated 125,000 compared with 170,000 – but organiser SBAC says quality has been the essence, rather than quantity.

An SBAC spokesman says: "Many exhibitors have told us that they have been impressed with the level of interest from visitors and the calibre of those attending. We also suspect that aerospace companies have reduced their budgets by buying fewer ‘exhibitor' tickets this year, cutting the number of their employees at the show.

"This, however, has no impact on the level of business and networking that has happened during what our exhibitors tell us has been a very successful show."
