Vought Aircraft Industries is to consolidate aerostructures work at its Dallas, Texas plant, closing facilities in Stuart, Florida and Nashville, Tennessee. Work will be transferred over the next 18-36 months, and the 1,000 employees in Nashville and 375 in Stuart will be offered jobs in Dallas, Vought says. The consolidation follows last year's merger of Vought and Aerostructures, both owned by the Carlyle Group private investment firm. The former Aerostructures facility in Nashville is largely empty, and Vought says its Stuart plant is "under tremendous economic pressure" caused by the airline downturn and recent slowdown of the Boeing 767 tanker programme.
