Israel Aircraft Industries' (IAI) Malat division is developing a new vertical take-off and landing (VTOL)unmanned air vehicle primarily intended for operation from naval vessels. The company declines to provide further details, but Flight International understands a prototype will be tested next year. IAI used the Gyrodyne QH-50 as the basis for its Hellstar VTOL UAV in the late 1980s, but the programme was cancelled after the prototype was damaged in a hard landing.
