British Airways will become the first UK carrier to allow check-in for UK-departing flights on WAP phones, and the first in the world to enable passengers to select seats via WAP. Users will also be able to check flight availability, arrivals and departures when the services are introduced in the first half of this year. The airline is also working with IBM on a flight booking capability. BA is one of a number of carriers investigating new technologies to keep passengers updated: Scandinavian Airlines, for example, recently launched a trial of Bluetooth technology to send flight information to mobile phones.
