Eclipse Aviation has opened a friction stir welding facility at its Albuquerque, New Mexico base. Friction-stir welding, pioneered by the company, is used in assembling the Eclipse 500 personal jet. The technique will replace over 60% of rivets in assemblies including cabin, aft fuselage, wing and engine mounts.
