Westland Helicopters has been recommended for two quality awards following a rigorous assessment by the British Standards Institute. The business was awarded ISO 9001:2000 and AS9100:2001 with certification granted after a week of audits.
Aersopace Sector (AS) 9100 is an international quality standard for aerospace suppliers, while the Society of British Aerospace companies (SBAC) has also been working with a range of companies to develop specific quality requirements for the aerospace supply chain. Westland Helicopters managing director Alan Johnston welcomed the milestone, saying: "This is an achievement that is particularly satisfying because this approval is mandatory if we are to continue to supply our products to the Ministry of Defence and other customers."
