Canadian Aerospace plans to launch production of the Windeagle all-composite light aircraft by the end of February. The Windeagle is based on the already certificated Windecker Eagle, rights to which were acquired by the Burlington, Ontario-based company.

President Phil Nelson says the first four-seat, piston-powered versions of the Windeagle should be completed by the end of the year. A turbocharged version is planned, and the company is working on two turboprop-powered derivatives: an unpressurised four-seater and a pressurised six-seater.

The basic aircraft will sell for $198,000, equipped for instrument flight rules flying, with the turbocharged version costing "$30,000-40,000 more", says Nelson. Target prices for the turboprop Windeagles are $425,000 for the four-seater, and "below $900,000" for the six seater.

The basic Windeagle is powered by a Teledyne Continental IO-550, producing 15% more power than the original Windecker Eagle's IO-520. A Hartzell three-blade propeller has been installed and the wing spar strengthened. Turboprop versions will be powered by a Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A.
