++ Air UK Engineering has signed a five-year deal with Skyways to undertake heavy maintenance on the Swedish carrier's fleet of eight Fokker F50s after the UK company successfully completed a year-long contract. ++ Dee Howard has begun heavy maintenance of an Airborne Express Douglas DC-8-63 under an agreement covering C checks on all the package carrier's DC-8 freighters to be completed by year end. The company also has a contract with Sun Country for C checks on six Boeing 727-200s. ++ Russian independent airline Transaero has signed a three-year contract with Israeli Aircraft Industries (IAI) to provide maintenance for the airline's fleet of Western aircraft - five Boeing 757s, five Boeing 737-200s and three DC-10-30s. IAI has provided some of Transaero's maintenance over the past five years; up until now, however, British Airways was servicing the 737s and Aeromexico the DC10s. ++ Lauda Air has signed a five-year contract jointly with Lufthansa Technik (LHT) and Shannon Aerospace, for the servicing of the Austrian airline's fleet of Boeing 737s. LHT will carry out C checks on the fleet at the company's Berlin Schönefeld site, while heavy maintenance (D checks) will be performed by Shannon Aerospace, in which Lufthansa has a 50% stake. ++ China's Aircraft Maintenance and Engineering (AMECO), based in Beijing, has entered the international maintenance and overhaul market with the completion of its first D-check on a Lufthansa Cargo Boeing 747-200 freighter. ++ Aeroflot International Airlines has completed the first C check on an Airbus A310-300 at its Sheremetyevo maintenance hangar. ++ Sabena Technics has signed a three-year deal with Sudan Airways to maintain and repair the carrier's two Airbus A310-200 and A300-600s. Most of the work will be undertaken in Khartoum. HAECO has secured an $11 million contract with Air China to convert a Boeing 747-200 Combi to full freighter configuration.
