++ AMR Eagle's Regional Aircraft Maintenance Center, located at the former K I Sawyer AFB, Michigan, will perform C checks on 12 Aero International (Regional) (AI(R)) ATR 72s turboprops operated by Atlantic Southeast Airlines. The work began in early December 1997, and each aircraft visit will last for between five and 15 days. ++ Harima Heavy Industries (IHI) has signed a contract with China Southern Airlines to maintain CFM International CFM56-3 and International Aero Engines V2500-A5 turbofans until October 1999. IHI has also signed a $6.61 million contract with the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force for the overhaul of 34 turboprop and turboshaft engines. ++ Delta Air Lines has been awarded a ten-year, $130 million contract to provide maintenance and technical services for Airborne Express' fleet of ex-All Nippon Airways Boeing 767-200s. The aircraft are being configured as freighters for operation on Airborne's cargo network, but unusually will not be equipped with main deck cargo doors as the carrier utilises loading devices which fit through the standard passenger doors. ++ Rotables specialist Airinmar has concluded a deal with British Aerospace subsidiary Asset Management Jets to repair and overhaul all rotables removed from AI(R) Avro RJ/British Aerospace 146s undergoing maintenance between leases. The service is being provided on a fixed rate per engineering hour. ++ Avtel Services has secured a contract from Reno Air for a C check on a Boeing MD-83, having recently completed similar work on two other aircraft of the type. ++Coopesa has a contract from the Aero Controls subsidiary Triple J Leasing to carry out a D-check, corrosion prevention and paint scheme on a Boeing 737-200. ++ Rolls-Royce Canada has received a five-year contract worth $12.5 million from Midway Airlines to carry out maintenance on the R-R Tay engines which power the airline's eight Fokker 100s.
