Alsalam Aircraft has signed a deal with Saudi Arabian Airlines to undertake heavy maintenance and overhaul on six of its Boeing 747s. Work will be performed at Alsalam's facility at King Khaled International Airport in Riyadh. Alsalam, 25% owned by Saudi Arabian, undertakes a range of civil and military maintenance work. A second Japan Airlines 747-300 has arrived at Boeing Wichita to undergo modification from domestic to international passenger configuration. JAL plans to modify four of the aircraft, which it says will give it flexibility to configure passenger seating in four different arrangements to match the routes flown. The first aircraft arrived in Wichita last November and was returned in February. The second aircraft will be returned to JAL in May. Pemco has secured a contract from Continental to undertake heavy maintenance checks on Boeing 727s and McDonnell Douglas DC-9s and MD-80s. Finmeccanica subsidiary Aeronavali has signed an agreement with Federal Express to maintain six DC-10-10s.
