Nordam has announced orders for 26 shipsets of Stage 3 hushkits for the Boeing 737-200 - six for US lessor C-S Aviation Services; five for aircraft leased by Vanguard Airlines from Unicapital Air Group (three) and GECAS (two); four for US lessor Triton Aviation, two to be installed on aircraft operated by Frontier Airlines; three for Casino Express; two for Swedish lessor Celsius Amtec, already installed on aircraft operated by Air Malta; two for Air Caribbean; one for Air Mediterranée; and three shipsets for privately owned aircraft. Boeing Airplane Services (BAS) is performing engine pylon strengthening and scheduled heavy maintenance on five 747 freighters for Kitty Hawk International. The first aircraft is scheduled for redelivery by the BAS modification centre in Wichita, Kansas, this month and the last for May next year. Pemco World Air Services and Wagner Aeronautical are working jointly to rectify the design of Pemco's Boeing 727 passenger-to-freighter modification which was affected by a US Federal Aviation Administration airworthiness directive (AD) reducing cargo capacity. Work will be completed in August. PWAS subsidiary First Engineering, meanwhile, has received FAA approval for an alternative method of compliance with the AD, which allows Pemco-modified 727 freighters to be operated with side restraints installed without incurring substantial weight penalties, says the company. Willis Lease Finance (WLFC) and Chromalloy Gas Turbine have formed a 50:50 joint venture to maintain, repair and overhaul commercial jet engines, Initially the Pratt & Whitney JT8D. WLFC's Pacific Gas Turbine Center (PGTC) subsidiary forms the core of the joint venture, also called PGTC, with repair specialist Chromalloy providing working capital. UAL Services is to provide routine engine maintenance for CFM56-powered Boeing 737s operated by TAESA under a five-year contract.
