Brussels-based DHL affiliate European Air Transport (EAT) has selected MTU Maintenance Hannover to provide maintenance support for the General Electric CF6-50 engines powering the carrier's fleet of 10 Airbus A300B4s. The deal also covers powerplants on another three of the twinjets which EAT expects to receive before the end of the year. MTU says the five-year contract, with a renewal option, is valued at DM120 million ($57 million). Canadian low-cost carrier WestJet Airlines has awarded Miramar, Florida-based Avteam a two-year contract to provide Pratt &Whitney JT8D repair services. AMR's Regional Aircraft Maintenance Center (RAMCI) subsidiary, based at Marquette, Michigan, is to perform overnight phase maintenance on American Eagle's fleet of Embraer regional jets beginning 1 February. RAMCI performs heavy maintenance on Eagle's ATR fleet. Woodville, Washington-based Soundair is to sell surplus Boeing parts supplied by lessor Boullion Aviation Services on consignment. BAE Systems Canada has been contracted by Saudi Arabian Airlines to undertake navigation upgrades of its fleet of 12 Boeing 747-200/300s with the installation of GPS-based flight management systems. Work will begin in April. US airline Midwest Express is building a new maintenance facility adjacent to Milwaukee's General Mitchell Airport which will undertake maintenance support for regional subsidiary Skyway Airlines.
