FedEx Express has placed a 10 year, $1.5 billion extension with General Electric Engine Services for its maintenance cost per hour contract which covers refurbishment and repairs for CF6-6 engines powering its fleet of McDonnell Douglas DC-10/MD-10 freighters. Work will include the installation of GE's HT90 turbine upgrade. Meanwhile, FedEx has signed a three-year maintenance contract with FLS Aerospace for overhaul services on its Boeing 727, DC-10, MD-11, and Airbus A300/A310 fleets. Aircraft Maintenance and Engineering Corp (AMECO) has completed the first Boeing 767 pylon modification for Air China as part of a fleet programme. Meanwhile, Egyptair has contracted with AMECO to undertake heavy maintenance on its 767 fleet. Albanian Airlines has signed a $1 million-plus contract with the UK's Commercial Aircraft Services for a three-year per-flying-hour support contract for its newly acquired BAe 146. FLS Aerospace has received approval from Aviation Partners Boeing to perform "blended winglet" modifications on Boeing 737-800s. In June, FLS will perform modifications on the first of three of Air Berlin's 11 aircraft. Lauda Air has contracted FLS to perform heavy maintenance on its 737 and 767 fleets. Work includes four checks on the 737s and three on 767s. A landing gear overhaul contract has also been awarded which will be performed at FLS' specialist facility in Dublin. Alitalia has placed a $17 million contract with TIMCO Engineered Systems for a major interior overhaul of its nine 767-300ERs. Work includes installation of maindeck flight and cabin crew compartments, and reconfiguration of its passenger cabin including installation of in-flight entertainment systems. Work at TIMCO's Greensborough site will be completed in March. Volvo Aero Services (formerly AGES Group) has signed a multi-million dollar parts deal with aviation aftermarket specialist Tracer and Internet part marketeer Tradeair.com.
