Snecma Services has signed a long-term per-flight hour maintenance contract with Northwest Airlines for its CFM International CFM56-5A engines. Northwest has over 300 CFM56s for its Airbus A319s and A320s, and Snecma will provide quick engine change as well as buyer furnished and line replaceable equipment. Volvo Aero is to become the principal supplier of engine overhaul services for Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) and its part-owned Spanish partner Spanair, in a SKr1.8 billion ($227 million) contract which runs until 2006. Meanwhile, SAS division SAS Component has signed a deal with Air Berlin to provide avionics component repair services for the airline's 29 Boeing 737-800s. Air France Industries (AFI) and Alitalia Engineering & Maintenance have signed a seven-year co-operation agreement for a two-way workload exchange. AFI will be responsible for components, repair and spare pooling of Alitalia's Boeing 777 fleet, while Alitalia will repair and overhaul auxiliary power units on Air France's Boeing 747 Classic fleet.
