Attracting new blood to the aerospace industry is a major challenge for British Aerospace as it stages a series of workshops at Farnborough airshow.

More than 70 recent graduates from around the globe have been invited to attend the event which aims to give a taster of the industry.

"I think most young people don't think of the aerospace industry as very glamorous, so we wanted to give them a flavour of what it's really like by holding these workshops at Farnborough," explains Kim Reid, young people and resourcing development officer.

Following the theme of this year's show - Youth in Aerospace - the daily workshops include a question-and-answer session with BAe's Terry Morgan, director of human resources, and John Weston, chief executive.

Three young BAe employees currently on its two-year graduate training programme have also been presenting an insider's perspective to working at BAe.

High flying Conal Walker, commercial graduate, says he's never looked back since he joined Matra BAe Dynamics after completing his post-graduate course in international relations at Lancaster University.

"Working for BAe is a pretty challenging world and a far cry from the world of university. It has given me not just business skills, but personal skills such as communication, working as a team member and self motivation," says Walker.
