Mr Kirby (Flight International, 21-27 October) stated that Concorde was the first airliner with full authority electronic control of the engines.
The Bristol Britannia had full electronic control of its Bristol Siddeley Proteus engines. This aircraft had its first flight in 1958, predating Concorde by a considerable margin. The Westland Wessex HC Mk2 (Wessex 60 civil version) also had full electronic control of its Bristol Siddeley Gnome engines. The civil version came into service in 1965.
