Hainan Airlines has chosen the CFM International CFM56-5B engine to power the 42 Airbus A320 aircraft.
The deal, which includes a long-term maintenance agreement, is valued at around $1.2 billion. The carrier is scheduled to start taking delivery of the A320s in 2012, says CFM.
The airline has also signed a long-term rate-per-flight-hour agreement to provide maintenance services for the CFM56 engines in the airline's fleet, it adds.
Hainan has over 85 Boeing Boeing 737-300/-400/-800s aircraft that are powered by CFM56-3 and CFM56-7 engines.
