Airbus's re-engined A320neo has secured type certification from European and US regulators.
The Pratt & Whitney PW1100G-powered aircraft has been approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency and the US FAA, confirms the airframer.
Airbus says the CFM International Leap-equipped version will be certified "in the coming months", along with the A321neo and A319neo.
The company launched the programme almost exactly five years ago.
Chief executive Fabrice Bregier says the aircraft is "now cleared for its first delivery".
Airbus has been aiming to hand over the first customer aircraft by the end of this year.
Three flight-test aircraft powered by PW1100Gs clocked more than 1,070h over the course of some 350 flights.
Airbus says 300h were performed in an "airline-like environment" to prepare for operational service.
The re-engined jet is intended to cut fuel-burn by 15% through the fitting of more efficient powerplants and sharklet wing-tips.
Airbus has secured orders for over 4,300 jets across the A320neo family.
