German army personnel have flown their 50th sortie in Afghanistan with an EMT Luna tactical unmanned air system equipped with an automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) transponder.
"Luna's new ADS-B transponder ensures electronic visibility to the air traffic controller, enabling better co-ordination of unmanned and manned aircraft in air space," Penzburg-headquartered EMT says.
The addition of the European Aviation Safety Agency-approved system has eased airspace integration and further enhanced the safety of operations, says Sascha Lange, EMT business development manager.
Flown in support on the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan since 2003, the Luna air vehicle can be equipped with electro-optical/infrared or synthetic aperture radar payload, plus signals intelligence sensors and communications relay equipment.
