Outgoing Aer Lingus chief Christoph Mueller is to become the next head of troubled flag-carrier Malaysia Airlines.
Aer Lingus had already disclosed that Mueller would step down in May 2015.
But sovereign fund Khazanah Nasional has named him as the chief executive-designate of Malaysia Airlines from the beginning of January, according to Malaysia’s official state news agency Bernama.
Mueller will take charge of a company whose financial position has suffered heavily in the wake of the loss of two long-haul aircraft, in separate accidents, this year.
Search teams have yet to locate the lost flight MH370, which disappeared on 8 March en route to Beijing, while the investigation is continuing into the destruction of flight MH17 over Ukraine on 17 July.
