Although its Light Combat Aircraft was absent, the progress which India is making on its path to becoming a major aerospace player was on display at Aero India 96. The most visible signs of this at the 3-7 December show were the Advanced Light Helicopter, along with the public debut of an airborne-early-warning technology demonstrator. Russia also made its presence felt with a massive Sukhoi Su-30 sales drive (see Headlines pages). Andrew Chuter reports from Yelanka air base near Bangalore.
