UK company Aerobox is to offer a thermoplastic LD3 container that offers improved durability and easier storage than traditional underfloor cargo containers.
The collapsible container is shortly to undergo a three-month trial with several airlines.
Aerobox's 86kg (190lb) container has an aluminium base panel and side panels made from 13mm (0.5in)-thick Aeroplaz reinforced thermoplastic. It is 12% lighter than its fully aluminium equivalent.
Aerobox says its Aeroplaz material is tougher than aluminium, easier to repair and save on space.
