Aeroflot has agreed to take three Ilyushin Il-96-400Ts this year after the widebody freighter's intended launch customer Atlant-Soyuz renegotiated its 2006 contract with lessor Ilyushin Finance and deferred deliveries. Two already flown aircraft are being modified fitted to Aeroflot's specification. They will be ready for delivery around the time that the third Il-96-400T (originally intended to be the first of Aeroflot's six -400Ts) is completed in October.
Atlant-Soyuz was due to be the first to take delivery of the new freighter, but earlier this month Ilyushin Finance general director Aleksandr Rubtsov said that while the Atlant-Soyuz contract for five aircraft remains in place, deliveries have been postponed to 2011. Rising fuel prices are blamed for the move.
