Romanian aerospace company Aerostar will double its airframe maintenance capacity with the planned opening of a new hangar at its location in Bacau this month.
The construction of the 5,000m² facility is largely complete, but utilities and other equipment have yet to be installed, says the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) provider and subassembly manufacturer.
With enough space to accommodate up to four narrowbody aircraft, the new hangar will bring the total number of maintenance bays to eight.
Aerostar supports BAE Systems 146/Avro regional jets, Boeing 737s and, since last year, Airbus A320s.
However, the company wants to add new types in the future, according to MRO director Ovidiu Buhai. The investment in the facility "underlines Aerostar's determination to develop its growing commercial aviation MRO activities", he says.
Around two thirds of the firm's revenues are generated by its commercial manufacturing and MRO activities.
The manufacturing business includes aerostructure work for GKN Aerospace, Premium Aerotec and Fokker Aerostructures as well as landing gear components for various models, such as the A320, A330, Dassault Falcon 7X and Eurocopter Super Puma.
