Air Austral has purchased two Boeing 737-800 aircraft as part of its continuing fleet renewal.

The two aircraft for the St. Denis, Reunion-based carrier will replace a 737-500 and 737-300 aircraft on regional routes to destinations like Mauritius, Madagascar, South Africa, Mayotte, Seychelles and Comoros.

The order is valued at $152 million at list prices.

The airline took delivery earlier this year of two new 777-300ER aircraft and placed a firm order for two Airbus A380 aircraft expected to seat as many as 840 passengers in a single class configuration.

According to Flightglobal's ACAS database, the carrier also operates three 777-200ER and three ATR 72-500 aircraft.
