An Air Canada Airbus A330 lost a rear wheel while taxiing at Montreal on 16 April, then took off and safely completed a flight to London Heathrow airport, according to the Montreal-based airline.
"Preliminary information indicates that a wheel separated from the aircraft while taxiing down the runway before takeoff in Montreal, and came to rest beside the runway," Air Canada says in a statement. "As the landing gear is comprised of eight wheels, this had no impact on the safe operation of the flight."
The aircraft, which was operating flight 864 with 294 passengers, "landed normally in London and taxied to the gate," Air Canada says.
The aircraft is being repaired in London, Air Canada adds without providing other details about the incident.
Transport Canada has not yet filed on its website a report about the incident.
