Air China is launching a non-stop service to Yushu in northwest China starting today in support of post-earthquake reconstruction efforts in the region.

The Chinese flag carrier will operate Airbus A319s on the thrice-weekly Beijing-Yushu route, says the airline.

Air China says the A319 will be equipped with required navigation performance (RNP) technology tailored for high-altitude flights.

Yushu Batang Airport is 3,905m (12,800ft) above sea level, says Air China, adding that the RNP technology will be "able to ensure normal flight patterns in these more complicated environments".

Yushu lies in northwest China's Qinghai province. A 7.1-magnitude earthquake, that hit on 14 April, left close to 2,700 dead and 270 missing.
