Air New Zealand's (ANZ) July RPKs were down 13% from a year before as passenger traffic continued to slide in line with the global economic crisis and concerns over H1N1 influenza.
In actual terms, passenger traffic fell by 8.4% to 1.1 million in July. Capacity, as measured by ASKs, fell by 9.6% and the passenger load factor was down 3.2 percentage points at 80.1%.
"Last year July benefited from the World Youth Day which took place in Sydney, increasing passenger demand," says ANZ.
In the short haul market, RPKs were down 8.5%, ASKs fell by 9.4% and the load factor was up 0.7% points at 78%. In the long-haul market, RPKs fell by 16%, ASKs fell by 9.7% and the load factor was down 6.1 percentage points at 81.6%.
