Airbus has assigned the development of a new A321 overwing door to the aerostructures manufacturing arm of Saab.
The development is part of a revised design for the twinjet which will enable it to increase accommodation to 240 passengers.
Airbus is changing the door arrangement on the type to meet exit and evacuation criteria.
Saab had already embarked on work for the new A321 programme with an agreement last year to design a door plug and cover plate.
The manufacturer says the second contract, for the overwing door, “strengthens” its position in the commercial aviation sector.
Saab will carry out the development at its Indian venture Saab-Mahindra in Hyderabad, while assembly will partly be performed at another Indian division, Saab-Aequs in Belgaum.
