Airbus Industrie is offering a "sky synagogue" to Israeli airline El Al in a bid to win the campaign to supply the carrier with a fleet of long-haul widebodies. Airbus is offering a mix of A330/A340s and has proposed using its underfloor cargo hold unit to accommodate the synagogue, which will be accessible from the main cabin by a stairwell. The synagogue will be able to accommodate up to 12 passengers and Airbus proposes to install a technical device that will keep the holy ark in the direction of Jerusalem throughout the flight. Galley areas are presently used for praying.
